One Product Every RVer Needs in Their Toolbox
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of T-Rex® Tape. All opinions are 100% mine.
When we first started out on our full-time RVing adventure everything was new. From the experiences we were having and the places we were visiting, to our home on wheels and all the shiny accessories we bought to go with it. It was all brand spanking new.
And boy were we excited! This life we had been dreaming about and planning for was actually finally happening.
I remember for about the first 5 months of our adventure, we kept wondering when the honeymoon phase would wear off. Every day felt like a vacation and this full-time RVing life seemed pretty easy breezy.
But then things started breaking.
Things started leaking.
Things started tearing.
Things started squeaking. (Like faucet handles, our hitch and every cabinet door in the place.)
And don’t tell anyone, but we were starting to get on each other’s nerves a little and the small space we were living in started feeling really, really small. Shocking, I know!
One Product Every RVer Needs in Their Toolbox
Putting the relationship aspect of full-time RV living aside (because that’s for another post y’all), one of the best ways we’ve been able to deal with things breaking, tearing, leaking and squeaking was having the right products on hand to tackle those jobs. Even if it was a temporary fix until we could get our rig in for repair.
One of the best and most useful products we’ve had on hand in our full-time RVing toolbox is a strong duct tape. A strong tape that is weather-resistant has come to the rescue over and over again.
Here are just a few examples of the times duct tape, T-Rex® Tape to be exact, has helped us tackle some outdoor jobs that needed attention.
Job #1: A Brand New Ripped Tent
Sigh.
In April, we were about to enter into the season of mosquitoes and wanted something that could serve as an outdoor living room while protecting us from annoying bugs.
We found the perfect portable gazebo that would comfortably fit four people. Purchasing this bad boy really stepped up our outdoor living game. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it.
Well, one day we made the mistake of leaving the gazebo up (not properly staked to the ground) when we were away from the RV….and guess what? The wind picked up at one point and tossed our gazebo about, causing a nice 10-12 inch tear in the roof. We’d only had it for a couple of weeks which was really irritating!
The only way to fix a tear like that and restore our sacred outdoor space was with some strong tape to patch it up.
Thankfully T-Rex® Tape is weather resistant and can stand up to a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels. Since this tent has traveled from the east coast to the west coast, from the beach to the mountains, it’s seen every kind of weather you can imagine. It’s still doing the job and providing protection from the elements.
Job #2: A Box That’s Falling Apart
Yep, a box.
Our favorite levelers for our travel trailer came in a box they fit perfectly in. This said box also fits perfectly in the back of our truck. When you live on the road there’s a perfect place for everything so that everything fits perfectly. Kind of like a real-life game of Tetris, you know what I mean?
So when this box started falling apart after a year, Todd started mentioning it was time to replace it. I mean, look at it.
It’s a hot mess. We had already tried reinforcing the box with standard, clear packaging tape. It worked for a little while but couldn’t stand up to the abuse of frequent moves.
But what if there was a way to give this box some serious TLC and keep it “in the family” for the long haul? Duct tape to the rescue.
I see many more months of use in this box’s future after a heaping helping of this duct tape. 🙂
T-Rex® Tape is so strong we could probably just create a box out of the tape. Next project/experiment maybe?
Job #3: Padding for Metal-to-Metal Contact Points
You know that metal-to-metal scraping sound? Like nails on a chalkboard…but worse? It’s giving me the chills just writing about it.
Well, that was the sound we were dealing with every time we stored the components for our weight distribution hitch. And let me tell you, it’s not a pleasant way to start the morning.
But what if we got creative and applied a bit of duct tape to this spine-tingling problem?
Todd wrapped the metal storage brackets in a couple of places with the duct tape and voila, problem solved. It was the perfect easy solution to an annoying situation. And I have no doubt that T-Rex Tape will stand the test of time and the elements. (As a side note, be sure you don’t put too many layers on your hitch storage brackets or your components may not fit! Ask Todd how we know.)
What Repairs and Annoying Problems Could T-Rex Tape Address for You?
Whether you are out on the road full-time like us or living the comfortable suburban life in a home, there are always issues similar to these that pop up and need attention. You know, those issues that need just a little bit of creativity and the right tool for the job.
We have found that having a roll of T-Rex® Tape around is one of the fastest and easiest ways to put the problems behind us and refocus on the adventure in front of us.
What issue do you think this tape could handle in your life?
